Journalist Jorge Agustín Zapeta Aguilar, 56, was found dead Tuesday afternoon in San Pablo Jocopilas, in Guatemala’s Suchitepéquez department, days after he was reported missing.

Local media said his body was found along the road leading to the El Aguacatal area of the municipality, on the roadside near a coffee plantation.

In a statement, the Guatemalan Journalists Association condemned the killing and expressed outrage over the death of Zapeta, who worked as a journalist in the towns of San Pablo Jocopilas and Santo Tomás La Unión, both in Suchitepéquez.

According to the association, Zapeta’s family said he had been missing since Sunday and had received threats in the days leading up to his disappearance.
