Journalist Hassan Douhan, 50, a reporter for the Palestinian Al-Hayat Al-Jadida newspaper, was killed on August 25, 2025, when in Israeli drone attack on tents housing displaced civilians in the Al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip.

His son, Yousef Douhan, told CPJ that the family had been displaced from Rafah since May 2024, and that Al-Mawasi was the latest location they took shelter. “An Israeli drone randomly fired bullets at the displaced people’s tents, and my father was killed instantly after being hit by a fatal round while inside his tent,” he said.

UNESCO condemned the killing of Douhan, saying he was the head of the investigative reporting unit at Al-Hayat Al-Jadida newspaper and killed when “an Israeli drone strike hit a displacement camp in Gaza.”
