Taliban authorities and the Pakistan government must immediately investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing of Afghan journalist Abdul Ghafor Abed and ensure that journalists covering conflict zones are protected in line with international law, the Committee to Protect Journalists said Thursday.
Abed, a provincial reporter for Taliban-controlled Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA), was killed on October 15 while covering clashes between Taliban and Pakistani security forces in Zazai Maidan district, in the eastern border province of Khost, according to media reports and a statement from his employer. Tawab Arman, a broadcast manager at RTA, was also injured in the incident.
