Journalist and director of news outlet gunned down in Sonora, Mexico

On 7 July, in Cajeme, in the state of Sonora, Ángel Sevilla, journalist and director of the digital outlet Noticias 644, was gunned down while he was riding a motorcycle. Cajeme is one of the municipalities with the highest homicide rates in Sonora and a focal point of criminal group disputes. The outlet Ángel Sevilla directed had become a key source of information on security and local violence, delivered in real-time. He was the first of three journalists to be murdered in a three-day span.
