Drone strike
Mohammed Al-Talmas, a 40-year-old Palestinian journalist who worked as an editor for Safa News Agency, was injured on January 13, 2025, when an Israeli drone fired a missile at a building in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, north of Gaza City. Al-Talmas died due to these injuries on the morning of January 14, 2025, according to his employer, multiple news reports, and his cousin, who spoke to CPJ.
“All of Mohammed’s family members were displaced from his home in the Al-Karama area northwest of Gaza City, which was one of the most dangerous areas at the beginning of the war, to areas in the central Gaza Strip. He was the only one left in Gaza City, while the Israeli occupation also destroyed his home,” his cousin, journalist Duaa Al-Talmas, told CPJ.
“At 3 p.m. on Monday, Mohammed was sitting with two of his relatives and friends at the door of a building in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, when an Israeli drone surprised them with a missile, killing the two people,” Duaa Al-Talmas said. “Mohammed sustained serious injuries to his head, abdomen, hands, and ears, and was transferred to the Ahli-Baptist Hospital and then to the General Service Hospital in central Gaza City, where he died of his injuries at 6 a.m.”
Al-Talmas was a father of five children.
