Ahmed Abu Skheil, a Palestinian photographer for the Gaza-based Al-Elamya News Agency was killed when Israeli warplanes bombed the Fahd al-Sabah School in the al-Tuffah neighborhood in eastern Gaza City on the morning of November 9, 2024.
Abu Skheil, 25, was housed in the school alongside hundreds of people, including his sister and fellow journalist Zahraa Abu Skheil, 22, and their father after they were displaced from their home in the al-Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City.
“At around 2 a.m. on Saturday, Israeli warplanes bombed the school while they were sleeping in one of its classrooms, which led to the martyrdom of my father, Zahraa, and Ahmed, along with a number of displaced people,” the journalist’s brother, Ali Abu Skheil, told CPJ.
