Anti-corruption journalist shot dead in northern Colombia

Jaime Vásquez had been living under police escort since 2022, after receiving death threats. His social media posts denouncing the corruption of the political class in Cúcuta, in northern Colombia, were disturbing. The blogger, a lawyer by profession, was shot dead inside a commercial establishment that he frequently visited, where he tried to take refuge after being followed by two individuals on a motorcycle, when he had just left home alone, as his bodyguard was away on his weekly day off.
