Saed Radwan, a Palestinian journalist and manager of the digital media department of Al-Aqsa TV, was killed alongside eight others in an Israeli airstrike on a school sheltering displaced Palestinian families in Shati camp in Gaza City on October 27, 2024.
The airstrike also killed freelance journalists Haneen Baroud and Nadia Emad Al Sayed.
Emad Al Sayed’s husband, Muhammad Masoud, told CPJ they were surprised when Israel began bombing the school around 1:15 p.m., including one of the classrooms they turned into a make-shift newsroom.
The head of the programs department at Al-Aqsa Radio, Ahmed Zughbour, told CPJ that “the strike was direct to the classroom they were in. to the point that our colleague Saed was shattered into pieces, and our colleague Nadia was also difficult to recognize at first.”
CPJ emailed the IDF’s North America Desk inquiring whether it knew that civilians and journalists were in the school when Israeli forces bombed it but did not immediately receive any response.
