Details

Colleagues of Ramon Fernandez said he was struck by three bullets fired by an unknown assailant, as he arrived at his Islas de la Bahia home after his work at Caribe TV Canal 27. "Upon arriving at his apartment, Ramon got out of his car," said co-worker Carlos Gutierrez. Before reaching the door of his home, Fernandez "was intercepted by a person who fired three times, hitting him once in the head and twice in the throat," Gutierrez said. Fernandez, 52, who was also a real estate businessman, worked on a show called "The Naked Truth" and other programming at the news station in Islas de la Bahia, an island chain off Honduras' northern coast. Nearly 50 journalists have been killed in Honduras over the past dozen years, murders that for the most part remain unsolved. Honduras also has the world's highest murder rate, at 66 homicides per 100,00 people. See the original article here.
