Journalist and assistant murdered in Paraguay, as security situation deteriorates

His assistant Antonio Almada was also killed.
Medina who worked as a regional correspondent for ABC Color was returning with his colleagues from a reporting trip to the Ko’ê Porã indigenous community when their vehicle was by two men in camouflage. After asking him to identify himself, they shot him several times in the chest and head, according to reports. One of his two assistants, 19-year-old Almada was also killed. Medina's editor told a local radio station that he had received threats "almost sicne he started out in journalism".The threats were related to his coverage of drug production and trafficking in eastern Paraguay. His death comes 13 years after his brother was murdered in the same region for his journalism work covering drug trafficking.
