The editor of the magazine Super Rally said that Mina, a photographer, died after the vehicle in which he was travelling careened off a curve on a dangerous section of the road. A technician working with Mina, Daniel Eduardo Diambrosio, was also killed. Two other passengers survived: Peruvian photographer Rodrigo de Quesada and an Argentine counterpart, Martín Delgado. Rally organisers stated that the journalists were not accredited to cover the full race.
