Ping Chung-Cheng of Taiwan Television Entreprise (TTV), stationed in Keelung City, was swept away by flashfloods while he and three other reporters were gathering information at the Yuanshantse anti-flood facilities.
Firefighters said that the reporters' vehicles was stuck in a low-lying area and that the reporters were swept away by surging water.
Firefighters managed to save Huang Chun-ming from the China Times, Yang Huei-chi from the United Daily News and Yang Shu-ling, a local cable television reporter.
Ping, 30, was recovered an hour later and pronounced dead.
