Marcano was killed by a group of unknown assailants that fired gunshots to his head and leg, on Wednesday, September 1, in front of his home in the city of Maturín, in Monagas State.
The reporter, who was also an independent city councilman, hosted a program on Radio Maturín and wrote a column for several newspapers in that part of the country. He criticized issues relating to drug trafficking and investigators have not dismissed the possibility that his murder could have been linked to his work as a journalist.
