Elyuddin Telaumbanua, a journalist with the daily newspaper Berita Sore, was abducted on the island of Nias off the northwestern coast of Sumatra on 22 August.
Mr Telaumbanua was on his way home from a reporting trip when he and another journalist were ambushed by a group of men on motorcycles, who overtook the pair, forcing them to the side of the road. The two journalists were beaten, but only Mr Telaumbanua was abducted. Although investigating authorities have come up some leads, witnesses in the case are reportedly too frightened to testify.
