In the western city of Fallujah, journalism professor Abdel Rahman al-Issawi was murdered by gunmen together with six of his family members on Monday night, according to eye witnesses quoted by the independent daily al-Mada.
Issawi, who contributed to several newspapers and satellite channels and taught media studies, was killed along with his father, brother, and four children in his home. While violence on the whole has been down in the western province of Anbar, the area around Fallujah has sees continuing high levels of insurgent activity.
