Details

Luciano Leitao Pedrosa was shot dead whilst eating at a restaurant in the north-eastern state of Pernambuco.

The motive behind the killing of the 46-year-old TV and radio journalist was not immediately clear, but Brazilian police have said they are investigating whether or not it was related to his work. Pedrosa, who worked for Metro FM and Vitoria TV and was known for his critical coverage of criminals and local authorities, had received death threats, a local newspaper reported.

He died after being struck in the head by a gunman who entered the restaurant and fired multiple shots, the Recife-based daily Diario de Pernambuco reported. Pedrosa was pronounced dead at the scene. The unidentified gunman fled on a motorcycle driven by another individual who had been waiting outside, press reports said.
