Details

Sports journalist Yuriy Danylov died Nov. 11, 2012 at Kiev’s Sports Palace, following a hockey match between Ukraine and Poland he had been covering, when he fell into a hole that had opened near the ice and sustained injuries that led to his death.

The Interfax-Ukraine News Agency quoted an eyewitness as saying that employees of the Sports Palace were hastily mounting structures in preparation for a coming concert at the venue when the hole opened. As of early December 2012, authorities were investigating to determine whether Danylov’s fall was an accident or the result of safety violations. The employees reportedly could face criminal charges in connection with the death and, if convicted, could face up to eight years in prison.  Source: IPI
