BuzzFeed joins INSI

BuzzFeed joins other media organisations like Reuters, BBC, ABC, CNN, Al Jazeera, and many more as part of INSI's growing network concerned with the safety of journalists and best practise in reporting from dangerous locations.  The Chair of INSI, Richard Sambrook, said: "I am delighted that BuzzFeed is joining INSI and adding its perspective and experience to our work. All organisations seeking to report first hand from dangerous locations need to take the safety of journalists seriously and help to develop and share best practise in the field. In the last 12 years INSI has made a substantial contribution to protecting newsgatherers in their work - BuzzFeed will be an important part of our network." INSI is the news industry’s safety body and its research has shown that on average two journalists or media workers are killed every week, year in year out, doing their job.   "The safety and security of all journalists is something that's important to us at BuzzFeed,” said Jason Reich, BuzzFeed’s Director of Global Security. “INSI is a great way to share critical security information and best practice with our colleagues across the industry, and we're happy to be a part of it." INSI seeks to prevent harm by providing relevant and timely advice to journalists to help them stay safe wherever they are working, developing best practise to protect against risks and training journalists around the world in how to work safely.  Image by AFP
