Reporter Jacinto Romero Flores killed in Veracruz, Mexico

A radio reporter who covered politics and crime stories has been shot dead in Veracruz, a state on the Mexican Gulf coast.

Jacinto Romero Flores was killed on August 19 after receiving death threats and abuse, particularly after he reported on local police corruption. Veracruz state has a reputation as one of the deadliest places in Mexico for reporters and journalists to work. Romero Flores is at least the fifth journalist or media worker killed in Mexico since the beginning of 2021.
