"Indian government must do more to protect media"

Indian journalist and documentary film maker Nupur Basu has urged her government to do more to protect the media.

At least 142 journalists in the South Asian country were attacked between 2014 and 2015, according to the Indian government. But critics say these attacks are not taken seriously by those in power and that journalists there are not being protected.

Last month reporter Kamlesh Jain was shot dead at his office in Madhya Pradesh Pipliyamandi. His family believe he was killed by members of an illegal liquor trade that he had recently exposed in a newspaper investigation.

Basu told INSI journalists need to stand together in solidarity and not miss the story - that they themselves are coming under threat and being killed.
