Congolese journalist brutally killed

Heritier Magayane, a journalist who worked for the state-owned Radio-Television Nationale Congolaise (RTNC), was killed on Saturday 7 August, 2021.

Two assailants slit his throat after anonymously arranging to meet him, then taking only his phone.

Magayane worked in the city of Rutshunu, in the region of North-Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Magayane hosted a youth programme which consistently called for peace in the embittered region. Magayane's channel also reported kidnappings in the area, where several armed groups operate.
