Senior journalist killed in attack in Guntur

A senior journalist working for Telugu daily 'Andhra Prabha' died following an attack on him by unidentified miscreants at Chilakaluripet town, police said Wednesday.

According to police, 50-year-old MNV Shankar was attacked late last night by unidentified assailants as he was returning home from his office. He was attacked with iron rods and sustained injuries to his head.

Shankar was initially admitted to a local private hospital before being shifted to the government hospital, where he was declared dead.

Local journalists said that Shankar had exposed the activities of an alleged ration dealers' mafia in town. Saying they suspected the role of the kerosene dealers' mafia in Shankar's death, the journalists demanded that police take stern action in the case.
