Mexican radio presenter, activist shot dead during live broadcast

The Mexican radio presenter and activist Atilano Roman was shot dead during a live broadcast of his weekly programme in the northwestern state of Sinaloa.

Two men burst into the studio and shot Roman several times and listeners heard the shots and the cries of his colleagues before the broadcast was cut off.

Reporters Without Borders said Roman frequently criticised local authorities in his programme and he had received threats in the past "in connection with his role in organizing marches and protests to demand compensation for the lost land".
